The assumptions
Every number here is set where it makes Bublio look worse rather than better. Two minutes to mark a paper by hand is at the fast end of what teachers report, and fifteen seconds a paper is slower than the camera needs. Change any of them — they are all yours to argue with.
- Marking one paper by hand2 min
- Two minutes for a page of multiple choice, with the key beside you and no interruptions. Most teachers report longer, especially at the end of a day.
- Photographing one paper0.25 min
- Fifteen seconds a paper, which is slower than the camera actually needs. It covers picking the sheet up, holding it flat and putting it down.
- Checking the marks Bublio held back4 min
- Bublio refuses to guess at an unclear mark, so somebody decides those. Counted at four minutes an exam — time the calculator takes AWAY from the saving.
- Adding up and entering marks20 min
- Totalling a class, copying the marks into a spreadsheet and checking the sums. Bublio removes this entirely; a school that already had it automated should set it to zero.
- Building and printing the sheet10 min
- Bublio does NOT save this — it is roughly the same work either way, so it cancels out and is not counted as a saving in either direction.
What Bublio does not save
- Written answers. Bublio shows you each one with the photograph beside it, which is faster than a pile of paper, but a person still reads and marks them.
- Writing the exam. Bublio builds the answer sheet, not the questions.
- Printing and handing out. Roughly the same work either way, so this calculator counts it on neither side.
- The marks Bublio holds back. Anything it cannot read confidently waits for you — that time is already subtracted above, not ignored.
